Keltia – Wakefield Youth Folk Ensemble

This is a small group of lively, talented, hardworking and enthusiastic young musicians who love to play Irish music! Pupils (all of whom attend local secondary schools) include violins, flutes and acoustic and bass guitars. The group plays traditional Irish dances such as Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes and Ceilidh music.

The ensemble, previously known as Fiddles ‘n’ Flutes, is directed by Kate Ghent and continues to go from strength to strength. Kate is an Area Leader and string teacher from Wakefield Music Services who has a passion for Irish fiddle music which she shares with her students!

The group have played at many concerts over the years including ‘Billies Concert’ and Wakefield Music Education Hubs ‘Hubalaboo!’. Recently the group played at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park cafe where their performance was obviously much appreciated by the diners……with a lot of toe-tapping from the audience!!

Keltia rehearse at Manygates Music Centre from 4.30pm – 5.30pm every Friday in term time. Group size is limited and entry is by audition and invitation only.
