Hunt for Horns

The Hunt for Horns ensemble was first established in 2011 in partnership with the Wakefield Music Services and the Wakefield Independent School Foundation, with the purpose of providing opportunities for pupils that play the French Horn to come together. The French Horn has long been established as an ‘endangered species’, often with one or two pupils in an area leaning to play. The Hunt for Horns brings all players of all levels together, reducing isolation and encouraging pupils to expand their knowledge and ability on this specialist instrument.

The group meets every Friday at 4:45 – 5:45pm during term time at Manygates Music Centre and is led by a French Horn specialist teacher, Mr Carl White. In addition to playing exciting repertoir, the ensemble covers French Horn specifics such as technique, maintenance, transposition and bass clef reading. Once members have met the required standard, many stay for the following rehearsals with Wakefield Youth Orchestra.
